Every family has recipes passed down through generations. But few recipes survive the test of time — and fewer still manage to grow into something that touches the lives (and taste buds) of so many.

At G.W.S BBQ Sauce, our story starts with one man: George W. Smith, our grandfather. He wasn’t a chef or a culinary professional. He was a backyard pitmaster, a passionate cook, and a flavor experimenter long before food trends ever existed.

He’d spend his weekends in the kitchen, mixing and blending sauces from scratch — adding a pinch of this, a splash of that, until he had something that made people stop mid-bite and ask, “What is this sauce?”

What began as a humble attempt to elevate his Sunday cookouts quickly became the most talked-about element of every family gathering.


Someone Was Paying Attention…

Unbeknownst to George, his son — our father — was watching closely. He didn’t just enjoy the sauce. He studied it.

Years later, our dad took that original formula, respected every ingredient, and added his own twist. More depth. More heat. More balance. He kept what worked and perfected the rest.

That’s the sauce we have today — a recipe rooted in tradition, refined through time, and passed down with pride.
